The strong growth of import of textile and textile related articles in Nepal indicates a huge potential in the domestic textile sector. In FY2017/18, Nepal's import of textile and textile related products reached around Rs 48 Billion, a growth of 10 percent compared to FY2016/17. Nepal imports textile products in various forms where raw material constitutes 48 percent of total imports.
Meanwhile, the share of semi-processed raw materials and processed goods constitutes 14 percent and 38 percent in total import of textile and article of textile, respectively. This composition reveals the opportunities available at each stage for Nepali textile industries that are engaged in activities including production/processing of raw materials, spinning and manufacturing of apparels. With this, an integrated approach is needed to realise the opportunities in the textiles sector.
