March 24: A meeting of the Council of Ministers has decided to promote Additional Inspector General Basanta Bahadur Kunwar to the post of Inspector General of the Nepal Police.    
Surya Kiran Sharma, press coordinator of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, told RSS that the cabinet meeting decided to promote AIG Kunwar to the top post.    
He was promoted to AIG as per the decision of March 20. AIGs Tek Prasad Rai, Deepak Thapa, Shyam Lal Gyawali and Kiran Bajracharya along with Kunwar were in the race for IGP.    
Sitting IGP Dhiraj Pratap Singh is retiring from today (Friday) after completing his 30-year tenure in the police force. -- RSS
