Lo-Manthang Receives First Snowfall this Winter

March 8: Lo-Manthang of Upper Mustang he witnessed snowfall since early morning today. This is the first snowfall in Mustang this winter. There has been rainfall in lower Mustang, including the district headquarters Jomsom. Chiring Wangdi Gurung of Lo-Manthang said that it was the first time this year that they witnessed snowfall.

 Chairman of Gharpajhong Rural Municipality Mohan Singh Lalchan said that it has been snowing in the highlands and raining in the lower areas.

“The snow has been melting as soon as it reaches the ground in the low-lying areas because the land’s temperature is high,” he said.

“The hills on the other hand are blanketed in white snow.”

Agriculture experts believe that snowfall will be helpful for winter crop

Chief of the Agricultural Knowledge Center, Mustang, Prakash Bastakoti says that snow will act as a natural irrigation system by helping water reach deep into the layers of soil and therefore help in producing better crops.

The apple tree requires sub-zero temperature for its lowers to blossom, says Bastakoti.
