Paddy Production Rises in Palpa

December:  Compared to the last year, paddy  production has increased in Palpa this year.

According to Agriculture Knowledge Center Palpa Chief Kamana Adhikari, Palpa produced 32,019 metric tons of paddy this year. Paddy was cultivated in 8,210 hectares of the land in the district.

“Disease and insects attacked paddy at seed-bearing time. Despite this, their effect was less than expected”, added Adhikari.

The district had produced 31,428 metric tons of the paddy cultivated in 8,206 hectares of the land. “Increasing use of modern technology, and use of improved seeds recommended by agriculture technicians have led to the rise od paddy production”, said Center’s Information Officer Milan Gaire.

Farmers have been planting various species of paddy such as sabitri, hybrid, sanwa mansuli, US-312, shnati, khumal-3, among others, in the district. Local paddy types are hardly cultivated these days. Peasants and farmers cultivate improved seed to increase productivity.

Adequate rainfall at the time of paddy plantation and construction of canals have encouraged farmers to plant paddy. Use of thresher machine and tractor has made paddy cultivation easy for famers, motivating them to plant the paddy even in the barren field of late.
