Traffic Police Bans Use of Mobile Phone Holders in Motorbikes

September 1: The traffic police has banned mobile phone holders installed by motorbike riders for using ride-sharing apps.

The police have launched a campaign to take action against such riders after it caused several accidents.

According to the police, installation of accessories other than the inbuilt accessories provided by the motorcycle company is considered as modified objects which is illegal.

The police have started imposing fines after the drivers refused to remove such objects even after they were verbally told to remove the holders.

The traffic police is planning to impose a fine of Rs 5,000 to 20,000 after a few days.

The traffic police argue that the risk of accidents has increased as the riders were found keeping the mobile phone on the holder and driving without paying proper attention.

Some of the ride-sharing apps such as Pathao, Tootle, InDriver, Super App, Saathi and others are currently operating in Nepal. They have millions of riders and around 10 million ride sharing users.
