Consumer Rights Activists Draw Government's Attention to Spiraling Inflation

July 10: The Consumer Awareness Campaign Nepal (CACN), an organisation working in the consumer's rights sector, has drawn the attention of the government on controlling the spiraling inflation.
The campaigners on Thursday met with the Chief Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi and the officials of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and the Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection in this connection.
A delegation led by the Campaign's president Krishna Prasad Bhandari Marseli submitted a memorandum and urged the government to immediately control the market price hike.
The memorandum states that unfair business practices such as cartelling, monopoly and unlawful activities have been taking place in the market. It also points out that the market monitoring was also not meaningful and effective.
The memorandum suggests adopting a policy of market intervention and supplying the daily essential commodities through the Food Management and Trading Company and the Salt Trading Corporation Limited to ease the supply system and control the market prices.
It has also called on the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to analyze the gate price of goods at the industries and customs points. -- RSS
