Senior Citizens to Receive Old-Age Allowance at 68 Years 

May 29: The government has decided to provide old-age allowance under its social security programme from senior citizens of 68 years of age from the new fiscal year.    
According to the announcement made by Finance Minister Janardan Sharma while presenting the budget in a joint session of the parliament on Sunday, the provision of old age allowance has been amended to lower the age bar for the recipients. From now onwards, elderly citizens shall receive old-age allowance at 68 years instead of 70 years.

The elderly citizens have been receiving monthly allowance of Rs 4,000 under the social security programme.
