House Panel Directs Government to Control Spiraling Fuel Price

March 10: The Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Committee of the House of Representatives has directed the government to control the price hike of petroleum products.

A meeting of the lower house committee on Wednesday was focused on the issue of fuel price.

Chairperson of the committee Bimal Prasad Shreevastav drew the attention of all stakeholders that the government’s decision to raise the price of fuel had affecated the general public. He said that the committee has directed the government to control the price hike and to make petroleum products easily available for the general public.

“The committee has concluded that the consumers need to have easy access to petroleum products and the demands of Nepal Oil Corporation should also be addressed,” said chairperson Shreevastav, adding, “The committee has directed the concerned authorities to make fuel easily accessible to the people.”

The house panel has concluded that the government must focus on controlling the price hike.

The price of petroleum products have reached an all-time high in Nepal after the Nepal Oil Corporation last week increased the fuel prices citing an  increase in price of oil in the international market.

The price of petrol is currently Rs 150 per litre.
