FMTC Bans Sale of 2000 Quintals of Rice

September 24: The Food Management and Trade Company (FMTC) has prevented the sale of 2000 quintals of rice being stored at Surkhet office of Karnali province suspecting officials of trying to sell damaged rice that was meant to be destroyed.

Besh Bahadur Thapa, head of the Surkhet Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, informed that FMTC has prevented the sale of 1,975 quintals of Basmati rice. The ban has been put on after the department and the District Administration Office inspected the store.

Thapa said that inspection was carried out when the department was notified about the rice, which was suggested to be destroyed by FMTC, of being sent to Karnali for sale. He further said that the department has been informed about the quality of the rice.

"Since July 30, FMTC has been provided with only 2000 quintals of rice," said Binod Poudel, accounts assistant of FMTC. He said that they have also been consuming the same rice regularly. According to him, Kaushal Agro Rice Mill, Lahan packaged the rice on November 1, 2020.
