July 19: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has assured that the government would support the 'Make in Nepal-Swadeshi' campaign forwarded by the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) in order to build a self-reliant economy.
The finance minister made such remark during a meeting with a delegation of CNI.

During the meeting, Finance Minister Sharma clarified that he would back the campaign as his priority was to build a self-reliant economy, CNI said in a statement.

He said the government and private sector should join hands to increase production and to reduce country's import.

“I checked the data as soon as I became a minister. I found that our import is high and export is weak. We need to change this. The government can do this by joining hands with the private sector,” said Sharma.

The government would move ahead by taking the private sector in confidence for economic development and to generate employment, added Minister Sharma.
He said that the government needs support from the private sector to reduce the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the country’s economy. The finance minister added that he was ready to support the private sector to create conducive environment for industrial development.

The minister further said that he was ready to take into consideration the constructive criticism and suggestions from the private sector.

On the occasion, CNI President Satish Kumar Moore congratulated Minister Sharma on behalf of the CNI for his appointment to the post of Finance Minister.
He said that vaccine to all Nepalis and programmes for economic revival were the major need of the hour, the statement added.
