July 3:  Ministry of Finance (MoF) has authorized the Election Commission to spend up to Rs 7.73 billion for midterm polls announced for November.
According to a statement issued by the MoF, the authorized fund will be spent for the procurement of materials and equipments required to hold elections of House of Representatives.
The spending authorization from the Finance Ministry comes amid preperation of the constitutional body to conduct mid-term polls in two phases in November as announced by the government.
Earlier on May 22, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had dissolved the House of Representatives and announced midterm polls for November 12 and 19 upon the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
However, the move to dissolve the House and hold elections has been challeged in the Supreme Court. The Constitutional Bench at the Supreme Court is expected to deliver its verdict next week.
