Government Preparing to Establish Chemical Fertilizer Plant in Nepal

January 21: The government is making necessary preparations for setting up a chemical fertilizer plant in Nepal.

A recent meeting attended by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Lekhraj Bhatt, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Padma Kumari Aryal and government secretaries discussed about setting up a chemical fertilizer factory in the country.

The meeting discussed about the technology behind the production and the cost of setting up such factory. The technologies and methods prevalent in the world, natural gas, water electrolysis and hybrids were some of the technologies discussed in the meeting to determine the method suitable for Nepal.

Finance Minister Poudel said that he will prepare a proposal on the technology, investment method and cost related to the establishment of chemical fertilizer factory in Nepal after further discussions.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on October 8 had formed a committee under the coordination of Finance Minister Poudel to conduct a preliminary study on the establishment of a chemical fertilizer plant in Nepal.
