Government Starts Issuing Labour Permit

September 2: The government has started issuing labour permits to aspiring Nepali migrant workers at a time when the local administrations in different districts have imposed prohibitory orders to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The Council of Ministers recently decided to issue new labour permits upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security.

Tahachal-based Labour Office has started issuing new labour permits from September 2, following the cabinet decision. This has opened door for Nepali citizens to go overseas for foreign employment by fulfilling all the safety standards to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment Kumar Prasad Dahal told New Business Age that they have started issuing labour permits as per the agreement with the respective labour destinations and their demand for labour.

The government had stopped issuing labour permits since February/March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The new labour permits will be issued only through the Labour Office based in Tahachal. However, Dahal says those aspiring to go abroad to foreign countries for work are facing difficulty in arriving in Kathmandu to obtain the permit.
