DoTM Suspends Distributing Driving License

August 5: The Department of Transportation Management (DoTM) has suspended distribution of driving license from all four offices within the Kathmandu Valley.

DoTM has cited overcrowding for putting on hold the distribution of driving licenses.

The department said it was not able to manage the crowd despite government’s directive to maintain physical distance among the service seekers.

DoTM had started issuing license since mid-June after the government eased the lockdown restriction.

An official at the DoTM said that they decided to suspend all activities until the Covid-19 situation improves in the capital. According to the official, such measure was taken due to rise in number of coronavirus cases in Kathmandu Valley after the government lifted the lockdown two weeks ago.

With this decision, DoTM offices at Jagati, Ekantakuna, Sukedhara and Thulobharyanag have suspended their services until further notice.

DoTM has also suspended renewal of license. The department has not taken any tests after the government imposed lockdown on March 24.

The department has urged drivers to show the receipt from the office instead of license for the time being.
