January 20: According to ITC Trademap data, buttons worth US$ 1.11 billion (Rs 139 billion) were traded worldwide in 2018.
Nepal has also been manufacturing and exporting buttons, albeit in a small volume. Nepal’s button export reached its peak in the fiscal year 2012/13 when the country exported buttons worth Rs 82.4 million to various countries.
Nepal has been exporting its buttons to various western nations including the USA, Germany and the Netherlands. This shows the quality of our buttons. So, if the state invests in enhancing the capacity and productivity of the manufacturers and provides various subsidies to decrease the manufacturing costs, it is certain that this sector will grow rapidly and prove a boon for Nepal’s economy.
