Coronavirus Cases Jump to 42 in Nepal

April 22: The number of coronavirus patients in the country has jumped to 42 following confirmation of 11 new cases on Tuesday (April 21).

All new cases have been reported in Udayapur district, where a dozen people had tested positive just five days ago.

According to the national news agency RSS, Dr Samir Adhikari, joint spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, confirmed the new cases.

The infected persons are from the same group of people associated with a mosque in Triyuga Municipality of Udayapur.
The Ministry of Health and Population has said that a team deployed from Kathmandu has been conducting contact tracing of the infected persons.    
COVID-19 test is being conducted on 221 suspects in Birgunj and 320 in Udayapur, according to the Ministry.

Altogether 36,719 persons have undergone the COVID-19 tests while 107 suspects are currently in isolation.    
So far, four COVID-19 patients have returned home after full recovery.
