Khatiwada Re-appointed Finance Minister

March 4: Former governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada has been appointed finance minister for a second term, just a day after he tendered his resignation.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari re-appointed Khatiwada to the post on Wednesday (March 4) for his second stint after his term as National Assembly member expired on Tuesday.

According to the state-run national news agency – Rastriya Samachar Samiti – the president appointed Khatiwada to the post as per Article 78, Section 1 of the constitution upon the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is currently undergoing kidney transplant at TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.

Khatiwada had resigned from his post after his term as an upper house member had expired on Tuesday.

The president has also assigned the portfolio of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
