Brand new A319 Aircraft of Himalaya arrives in Kathmandu

March 3: A brand new Airbus A319-115 series aircraft belonging to Himalaya Airlines, Nepal’s joint venture international airliner, has arrived in Kathmandu.

The much awaited A319 aircraft MSN 9020 of Himalaya, with registration number 9N-AJK, landed in Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on March 2 at 22:20 hours local time.

Himalaya Airlines said it added the brand new A319-115 to its fleet to mark its fifth anniversary.

 Vice President (operations) of Himalaya Airlines, Hao Di, received the new aircraft with its maiden flight from Tianjin Binhai International Airport in China, to TIA, Kathmandu.

With the arrival of the new aircraft, Himalaya Airlines now has three Airbus A320-214 and an A319-115 in its fleet.

Airbus A319-115 is narrow body commercial passenger jet with twin engines and is a member of the Airbus A320 series that can fly both in short and medium ranges. The airline company in a statement said that the aircraft is configured with 8 business-class seats and 120 economy-class seats.

A319 offers new and more efficient engines which will help Himalaya to save fuel up to 15 percent, the statement added. The aircraft is capable of flying to high altitude destinations including Lhasa.

Himalaya Airlines made its debut in Nepali aviation on May 31, 2016 with its first commercial flight to Doha by operating its solo 158 seat capacity A320-114 series aircraft.  Currently, the airlines operates flights to Doha, Dammam, Dhaka, Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi as well as to Changsha, Guiyang, Shenzhen, Beijing and Chongqing in China.
