Government to Announce Packages for Airline Operators to Promote Gautam Buddha Int’l Airport

October 22: The government is preparing to announce various packages for airline companies in order to promote Gautam Buddha International Airport. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai said that the airline companies will be provided various concessions under the promotion package.

The airport is in the final stage of completion. The construction of the runway and other infrastructure is already complete. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the overall progress of the airport is between 80 to 85 percent on the infrastructure front.

According to the airport management, the construction of the terminal building, control tower, water tank, administrative building, security guard building, and other infrastructure are in the final phase of completion.

Likewise, the works of electrification, construction of taxi parking and setting the roof of the international departure building is currently underway.

As per the initial plan, the project is expected to be completed within 2019. The government plans to operate the airport from March 2020 after completing all the policy-level procedures within the first three months of next year.

The government will have to get approval from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) for operating the airport once the construction work finishes.

Cjina’s NorthwestCivil Aviation Airport Construction Group has been undertaking the construction of the project worth Rs 6.22 billion.
