Founding President of Dwarika’s Hotel Recognized for Introducing High-end Tourism Products in Nepal

September 29: The founding president of Dwarika’s Hotel, Ambica Shrestha, has been conferred with the Lifetime Achievement in Business Leadership Award during the Sixth NewBiz Business Conclave and Awards.

Shrestha, who has established herself as a successful businessperson in the field of hospitality management, was handed over the award amid a function organized at Soltee Crowne Plaza on Friday, September 27.

Eighty-seven-year-old Shrestha is recognized for introducing high-end tourism products in Nepal.  

She is credited for establishing the first boutique hotel in Nepal. She had started operation of Dwarika’s Resort in Dhulikhel of Kavre, which was later expanded to Dwarika’s Hotel in the name of her husband Dwarika Das.

She has been running the renowned hotel by incorporating the ideas of her husband that “we should preserve our art and culture and hand them over to the next generation”. This principle is vividly reflected in the artistic designs of the hotel built with modern technology but keeping alive the ancient arts and culture.

Altogether three generations of her family including her daughter and grandson have been successfully running Dwarika’s Hotel.

Shrestha is actively involved in social works and preservation of culture and heritage. She has also contributed to the education sector as a teacher. He name comes in the front runners among women  entrepreneurs of Nepal and also in the tourism industry. She was born in Sikkim, India on Debruary 12, 1933.
