Locals Demands resettlement of Tangia Basti before starting Nijgadh Airport Project

September 27: A committee formed by the locals of Tangiya Basti in Jitpur-Simara-16 of Bara has demanded the government to relocate their settlement before the laying of the foundation stone of the much-hyped Nijadh International Airport.

The concerned stakeholders made such demand by organizing a press meet on Wednesday, September 25 after the government planned to lay the foundation stone of the airport without relocating the settlement.

Yogesh Bhattarai, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, earlier this month announced that he will lay the foundation stone of the proposed Nijgadh International Airport in November this year.

Ramesh Kumar Sapkota, chairman of the committee said during the press meet that the government was not paying attention to the resettlement issue.

Stating that the government till date has not decided where, how and when to relocate Tangia settlement, he added that the state has to settle the issue of relocating Tangia Basti as early as possible.

The office of the Jipur-Simra Sub-Metropolitan City has submitted a proposal to the project office for the resettling Tangia Basti.

Kedarnath Bajgain, chairman of ward number 16 of Jitpur-Simara, informed New Business Age that the decision of the ward office will be presented to the government through the project office.

The herbal estate of Lamidanda, Katarwa and Kohalwi in Jitpur-Simara has been recommended as an ideal location for relocating Tangia Basti.

Om Sharma, chief of Nijgadh International Airport informed that Lamidanda, Katarwa and Kohalwi were proposed as an appropriate place for relocation on the basis of the recommendation made by the local government.

He further informed that the decision of shifting the settlement to 100 bighas of land belonging to the Herbal Processing Center of the government at Jatha, Zaur, ward number three of Kolhavi Municipality, will be taken this week.
