Electric Buses in Kathmandu from Next Week

August 20: Sundar Yatayat Pvt Ltd is all set to operate electric buses from next week. The company says all preparations have been completed for the operation of electric buses.

The company was scheduled to start its service from August 18 but it postponed the operation for a week due to some technical issues, said the company’s Chairman Bhesh Bahadur Thapa.

The company will be plying seven electric buses manufactured by Chinese company BAK from next week. Two of its buses have already arrived in Nepal while the other five are likely to reach Nepal within a few. Those buses arrived at Kolkata on Sunday, shared Thapa. He further said that the company will be adding another 11 buses a month after starting its operation.

The company claimed that the fare of the buses will be 25 percent cheaper than other public buses. The company has also arranged card system for payment. It will activate five kinds of cards including temporary, normal, student, single citizen and company.

The company purchased the 40-seater buses for Rs 16.5 million each. The company has installed two charging stations to recharge the battery of the buses.
