Government Launches Visit Nepal Year 2020 from Pokhara

April 15: The government has inaugurated the Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign from Pokhara, a city famed for its scenic beauty and lakes. Chief Minister of Gandaki Province officially inaugurated the campaign amid a function on Saturday, April 13. The government had initiated the campaign with the aim of attracting 2 million tourists in Nepal in 2020.

The government considers bringing in maximum number of tourists as well as promoting internal tourism as one of the means to achieve its goal of economic prosperity. In this regard, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation organised the soft launch of the campaign in Pokhara.

During the function, Chief Minister Gurung said that the Gandaki Province considers tourism as a means to achieve national prosperity. He said that the province has started 232 home-stay facilities keeping in view the comfort of the torists.

He also said that the province can attract pilgrims from India. He also said inaugurating the campaign from the shore of Fewa Lake has made Pokhara the undisputed “capital of tourism” in Nepal.

According to CM Gurung, 40 percent of the tourists visiting Nepal come to Pokhara.

“This is both an opportunity as well as challenge for Pokhara. When 2 million tourists visit Nepal, Pokhara has to accommodate 800,000 tourists,” he said.

The chief minister further said that the government is upgrading road and air services and that it won’t be much of a problem to welcome 2 million tourists if all three levels of governments work hand in hand.
