Japan to provide Rs 356 million for food assistance to Nepal

November 20: The government of Japan has agreed to provide grant assistance of 350 million yen equivalent to around Rs 356 million to Nepal for carrying out food assistance programme, according to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS).

The signing of Exchange of Notes towards this end was held on the witness of the foreign ministers of Nepal and Japan.

Nepal’s Ambassador to Japan Prativa Rana and Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Masamichi Saigo signed the memorandum of understanding on behalf of their respective governments on Monday, November 19. The signing ceremony was held at Ikura House, Tokyo after the bilateral meeting between foreign ministers of the two countries--Pradeep Gyawali and Taro Kano, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

According to RSS, the assistance aims to support the Government of Nepal to implement the Food Assistance Program to ensure food security to the Nepali people. The assistance from Japan will enable the Government of Nepal to procure rice and supply it to the people in need.
