More than Rs 100 billion spent on reconstruction after earthquake

April 25: The government has spent Rs 115.46 billion on reconstruction of private homes and other physical infrastructure in the last three years following the devastating earthquake of April 25, 2015. The amount was spent on the reconstruction and repair of private residences, cultural heritages, government buildings, schools and health-posts which were complete or partially damaged by the earthquake, informed National Reconstruction Authority (NRA).

The reconstruction activities have gathered pace in recent times but the achievements made in three years in not enough. Among the homeless earthquake victims, only 119,182 have constructed their houses. The number of private houses that are under construction is 403,089.

The repair work of other physical infrastructures which carry historic value and are important from tourism perspective are also moving in snail's pace. According to NRA statistics, the reconstruction of only 100 heritage sites has been completed among 756 that were damaged by the earthquake.
