Lifetime Achievement Award Conferred to Prem Bahadur Shrestha

September 24: Founder of Nepal’s reputed business house Panchakanya Group, Prem Bahadur Shrestha, has been conferred with the NewBiz Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the business sector.

Shrestha, 87, was received the title at the 4th Asian Paints New Business Conclave and Awards 2017 held on September 22 at the Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza.

Born in Ilam, Shrestha started his business from Fikal.  What he started as a small business in now one of the leading business houses of the country with nationwide coverage.

Upon receiving the award, Shrestha said that he felt reenergized for being recognised for his contribution to the country’s business sector.

He said that Nepal was lagging behind in development and urged everyone to utilise their time properly.

Shrestha had started a grocery and cloth store in Fikal, which has now grown into Panchakanya Group under which falls a number of industries including wood, steel, pipe, wire as well as hydropower company.

Three generations of Shrestha’s family are actively involved in Panchakanya Group.

Shrestha said that honesty was his first commercial norm and he stressed on the need to end corruption and create employment opportunities in the country.

Stating that industrial development requires political stability, Shrestha said that the country can attain development only if corruption is rooted out.

“Nepal is a diamond mine. If we can properly utilize the opportunities here, no one will have to go abroad,” said Shrestha.

“What we lack is honest leadership,” he added.
