September 23: Sipradi Trading Private Limited has been declared the Best Managed Company at the New Business Conclave and Award 2017 in the capital on Friday, September 22.

During the awards ceremony held at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza, 25 companies including Sipradi Trading and one individual were honoured for their contribution to the business sector of Nepal.

The awards ceremony being held annually by New Business Age since 2013 in one of the most reputed awards of the country. However, the awards were not held during 2015 due to the devastating earthquakes.

Meanwhile, the award for Best Joint Venture Company went to Unilever Nepal Limited while Nabil Bank was declared the Best Commercial Bank. Likewise, Gandaki Development Bank (Best Development Bank), ICFC (Best Finance Company), Nepal Life Insurance Company (Best Life Insurance Company), Shikhar Insurance Company (Best Non Life Insurance Company) won their respective awards.

Sanimamai Hydropower Company (Best Hydropower Company), CE Construction (Best Housing Company)and Urban Girl Inc (Best Start-up Company) won the other awards.  

The Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on Prem Bahadur Shrestha of Panchakanya Group for his vital contribution in the business sector of the country.

The topic of the conclave during this edition was ‘Nepal Start-up Ecosystem’. During the interaction, speakers including William Grimminck, the founder of One to Watch; Sohan Babu Khatri, founder of Three H Management; Cunil KC, CEO of NMB Bank and Aayushi KC, CEO of Khalisisi, expressed their views regarding the status of start-ups in Nepal, their problems, opportunities and challenges.

All the winners among the business houses from across the country were declared after evaluation of their performance by jury of specialists. The 11 different categories had different experts as jury members. The Best Managed Company was declared on the basis of employment, management practices, technology and innovation, market leadership, national coverage, public image, social responsiveness including social desirability of the Industry, corporate social responsibility, backward-forward linkages as well as the jury’s discretion.

Addressing the awards ceremony, New Business Age Pvt Ltd’s Chairman Madan Lamsal said such function was organized with a view to promote and accelerate the development of industrial sector of the country. He assured of giving continuity to this awards ceremony in the coming years too.

Lamsal also expressed his belief that the award would help encourage the business community and motivate them to provide better service.

“Although the development of business is gaining pace, the concerned authorities have not given due attention to it,” said Lamsal.
