Real estate has double digit growth, but contribution to GDP steady

September 1:The real estate sector has seen a double figure growth rate each year for the last few years. But, its contribution to the GDP has remained steady.

The real estate business in Nepal has been growing at a rapid rate, just in FY 2014/15 the sector reported a growth of around 14 percent.

 

According to figures from the central bank, the story has been the same over the last eight years, with the exception of 2007/08.

In 2006/07 transactions worth Rs 70.79 billion took place in the real estate sector. In the last fiscal (after nine years), the figure rose to Rs 174 billion. But the sector’s contribution to GDP, which was around 9.7 percent in 2006/07, remained at 10 percent even in 2014/14.
