Labor Minister Pledges to Evaluate Contribution of Workers

July 4: Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, Sher Bahadur Kunwar has pledged to properly evaluate the contribution of the workers. Speaking at a briefing on the Social Security Fund and the occupational security of workers at the ministry on Sunday, Minister Kunwar expressed his commitment to work with due respect to all workers in the country and abroad.

Kunwar said that trade unions and sister organizations of political parties should work for the protection of workers' rights and interests in a disciplined manner.

“I will also work to ensure justice for the workers. So let's work for the welfare of workers in a peaceful way rather than shutting down, protesting and locking up the factories,” said the newly-appointed minister.

Minister Kunwar informed that the remittances sent by the youths from abroad has been helping the country’s foreign exchange reserves  and that their contribution should be properly evaluated. He added that he would take initiative to amend the troublesome provisions in the law to make the working environment easier for the workers.

Similarly, he urged the concerned department take into considering the problems of the workers not only in the Gulf countries but also in India. Executive Director of the Social Security Fund, Kapil Mani Gyawali informed about the work done and the achievements made so far as well as the work that can be done in the coming days.

Similarly, Director General of the Department of Labor and Occupational Safety Umakanta Acharya provided information about the department. Kunwar has been briefing various departments under the ministry since he was appointed as the labor minister.
