Snowfall Affects Normal Life in Humla

November 17: Snowfall in Humla since the last two days has thrown life out of gear in the remote mountainous district of Karnali Province.

This is the second time in two weeks that Humla witnessed snowfall this season, reports the state run national news agency – RSS. The last time snowfall occurred in the region was on November 3.

According to RSS, people in the remote district are facing problems in commuting due to the heavy snowfall. Snowfall has covered all the pastures and the locals are forced to keep their cattle inside the sheds.

The temperature has plummeted in the district following continuous snowfall on Sunday and Monday (November 15-16).

The early morning temperature in Humla was reported to be around minus seven degrees Celsius. Northern Humla is more affected by the snowfall, RSS further reported. Areas to the north of the district headquarters Simikot have reported a massive drop in temperature.

Despite the hardship, local farmers expressed delight after the snowfall expecting good harvest of winter crops. They say that the plantation of wheat and other winter crops has become easy because of the rainfall as they do not have to toil hard for ploughing their fields.

Although the snowfall has ceased since Tuesday morning (November 17), all the hills are covered in blanket of white snow.
