Government to Dole Out Rs 2.36 billion to Unemployed Youths

May 19: The government is preparing to dole out Rs 2.36 billion to 160,000 unemployed youths of the country within the current fiscal year 2018/19. The government is providing the amount under the Prime Minister Employment Programme.

The government had annoounced a programme to provide employment to those people who remain unemployed at least for 30 days in a year or an equivalent amount in case it cannot provide employment. The government is providing the amount to all those unemployed citizens who were registered with the Employment Service Center in the current fiscal year.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS), Butwal, Bharatpur, Birgunj, Hetauda, Bharatpur, Kathmandu, Janakpur, Biratnagar and Birendranagar (Surkhet) top the list of registration of unemployed youths. Bhimdutta Municipality of Kanchanpur recorded 451 number of unemployed youths while Lalitpur district has the least number of unemployment with a record of only 18 employed youths.

The government also aims to end migrant workers going abroad within five years.

Under-secretary at the Prime Minister Employment Program Dr Loknath Bhusal said discussions will be carried out at local levels in all provinces to seek suggestions for ending the practice of foreign employment.
